Electric propulsion ship “AMANOKAWA”

TSUNEISHI FACILITIES & CRAFT CO., LTD. (HQ: 1471-8 Urasaki-cho, Onomichi, Hiroshima; President: Jun Kambara) completed construction of its first electric propulsion ship “AMANOKAWA” in October 2012, and The Japan Society of Naval Architects and Ocean Engineers named it 2012 Ship of the Year – Small Passenger Ship Category.

AMANOKAWA is a plug-in electric propulsion ship that uses lithium-ion batteries as its main power source. Constructed under the concept of a “clean and comfortable cruise,” the ship has low noise/vibration and zero emissions. The ship is currently in use as a sightseeing ship in the canals of Osaka City and is popular for its comfortable ride as well as the unique design and lighting not found on conventional ships. This type of ship is expected to become standard in the next-generation marine traffic infrastructure.
